What causes swollen gums?
This is a question that I want to find out regarding what usually causes swollen gums and if there is any connection with bad dental hygiene or infection and other dental problems. What causes swollen gums most frequently and when should you see a dentist?

Swollen gums are usually caused by gum disease (gingivitis), trapped food particles, or a dental infection.

    Common Causes:
Gingivitis: Plaque and bacteria build up on teeth. This irritates the tissue, leading to mild gum disease.

Trapped Food: A small piece of food gets stuck tightly between a tooth and the gumline.

Dental Abscess: A pocket of pus forms from a bacterial infection near a tooth root or in the gums.

Hormones: Surges during pregnancy, puberty, or menopause increase blood flow and make gums sensitive.

Other Irritants: Badly fitting dentures, braces, or a reaction to certain toothpastes and mouthwashes.
